OVERCOMING SPIRITUAL ANOREXIA

OVERCOMING SPIRITUAL ANOREXIA
Adesina Abegunde

Blessed day to you in Jesus name. I believe God that you are making tremendous progress already in restoring your appetite for spiritual things.

In the last post, I shared with you on Spiritual Anorexia, and I defined it to be the loss of spiritual appetite. A spiritually diseased condition where a person have no passion for spiritual disciplines, no taste for the Word and no zeal for prayer. Remember I said that it is an abnormality, even though some people feel it is normal Christianity when they don’t desire more than the casual. Now that you know this, how can a person overcome spiritual anorexia?

Overcoming spiritual anorexia is simply taking some steps in restoring your appetite for God. Waiting on the Holy Spirit to restore an unquenchable thirst and hunger for more of God. Before any therapy, there must be series of diagnosis to determine the real cause of a disease. Therefore, it is important to know the likely cause of the spiritual anorexia in order to know the cure that is needed.
The following are few causes of spiritual anorexia;

      1.      Sin (any form of disobedience to God)
      2.      Evil company or friendship
      3.      Unhealthy church atmosphere that dampens the spirit
      4.      Busyness and lack of time to fellowship (private and corporate)
      5.      Depression, oppression and some other satanic attacks
      6.      Discouragement, weariness, tiredness, hopelessness

More things can be added to that list, a personal sincere inward examination will help you to discern what exactly the cause is and once the cause is know, you are just one step away from the solution.
So, overcoming it may just require you to stop sinning and repent; detaching yourself from evil men and activities that heighten you appetite for worldliness; praying for a revival in your church or finding another church to attend; creating time to meditate and pray; finding your covenant friends that stirs your spirit up from time to time; seeking counsel from someone concerning certain issues that bothers you and weary you; and above all praying to God to put in you an unquenchable thirst and hunger for Him.

Beloved, don’t take spiritual anorexia for granted, if you have noticed a downward spiral in your spiritual growth, do something about it urgently, even now! Say a prayer to Jesus Christ. Talk to someone about it. Bounce back and keep growing and glowing for Jesus.
You will not fail in Jesus name.
Every satanic attack against your soul is destroyed today in Jesus name.
Receive your peace, joy, vitality, vision, and sound fellowship back in Jesus name.
