LEADERSHIP IS GIVING(Part 3)
Leadership is giving. Nothing more, nothing less.
By Adesina A. Abegunde
Beloved, happy new week, this will be your
best week so far in Jesus name. The help you most desire will locate you in
Jesus name.
Thanks for following this crucial lesson for
three weeks, in the first part I wrote to establish that leadership is giving,
nothing more, and nothing less. In the second part, I highlighted few things
out of the several there are, of things that great leaders give. I hope you added
more? In this third part, I want to wrap the lesson up with few wisdom tips in
giving.
As good as giving is to the success of
leadership, it must be done with wisdom. The following are the wisdom tips for
giving in leadership;
1. 1. God first. Give to God first. First give
yourself absolutely up to God and it won’t matter again whatever you have to
give out to people (2Cor. 8:5).
- Don’t assume leadership without having
something to offer. It is so unfortunate that many leaders today in
Nigeria practically have nothing to offer. Nothing means no substance or
something of no significance. Leadership is not for fun, it is for
functioning. Leadership is no title but task that must deliver significant
results.
- Freely have you received, freely give;
remember that there is nothing you have that you have not received. If you
are being paid in a corporate organization, see it as payment for your
job, but your work of leadership to the subordinates should be
unquantifiable. No amount should be able to pay for your actual leadership
impact. If your actual leadership impact can be paid for, then you are no
leader at all.
- Give who you are and what you have. Never
think you have nothing to give, it is gross deception. Who you are is
something to give, your optimism, smile, jokes, encouragement, winning
attitude, talents, skills, spiritual gifts and many other things that cost
nothing. The endowment of God in your life are unquantifiable gifts.
- Watch out for those who love your things and
not you; covetous people who are not really willing to grow their
potentials, only longing to fill their appetite. My mentor, Rev’d Taiwo
Opajobi, once said and I quote, “People
come around me for different reasons, some to learn, some to receive
things, some to use his influence to rise etc., you must know why you are
close to me and focus on it.” Beware of parasite, test people before
you trust them.
- Great leaders give out of overflow. So
make efforts to always abound in whatever you are required to give. Giving
out of overflow is refreshing, but if otherwise, it is frustrating.
- Identify the real need of your followers
individually; don’t give money to a person who needs time. Also identify
the real need from the felt need, because you may need to take care of the
urgent and important felt need in order to really meet the real need.
- Give to followers according to their
capacities (Matthew 25:15).
- Learn to under-promise and over-deliver.
Rather than to be like a windy cloud that pour no water. Leaders are
voices and no noises.
- Let your giving begin at home. If you are
not leading at home, you are not leading at all.If you are not giving at
home, you are not giving at all. Don’t be an eternal failure that mere men
celebrate as hero. Your wife and children are the litmus test of your
leadership.
- Come to the reality that no matter your
leadership level, you cannot give everyone everything they need. Only God,
the El-Shaddai, is more than enough, He alone is the ALL in all. Sam
Adeyemi shared his experience when God told him that “his attempt to meet
all his members’ needs is to come to realize that he (Sam) is
‘I-shall-die’ and only Jehovah God is EL-SHADDAI.
I conclusion, Jesus our ultimate example of
servant-leadership demonstrated this principle by giving us His precious life
in order to lead us back to God (John 10: 11, 17, 18). Leadership is giving.
Nothing more, nothing less.
As you step out to begin to lead correctly, unusual
promotion will come your way.
Strange anointing for accomplishment will come
upon you to succeed
As you go this week, decide to give all that
you can on earth, in order to die empty and fully satisfied.
