What
is Sex?
This
post is just an attempt to give you a very simple, possibly the simplest and
functional definition of what sex is, in a way that will make us indeed more
than a conqueror in dealing with sexual sin as the Scripture calls us.
Biologically, sex means
the two categories (male or female) into which most organisms are divided. In
previous post I have addressed how various dictionaries and people have also
defined sex ONLY in terms of sexual intercourse which permits people to
ignorantly (but not without a witness of their conscience) get involved in
sexual immorality.
Sex is any action that engages your sexual hormones and sexual organs as a response to stimulus
Now
focusing on our context, the WordWeb dictionary defines sex as:
“all of the feelings resulting from the urge to gratify
sexual impulses.”
From
this definition, sex is first and foremost a feeling before it is an action and
I think you will agree with me. Another dictionary definition is:
“Sex is any act that engages your sex drives
and may include intercourse”
Fantastic!
Sex is ANY ACT that engages your sex drives, “any act” may be looking,
touching, kissing, smooching, sexting, pornography, masturbation and whatever.
Note from that definition also that intercourse is optional in sex, as I have
earlier said that you can have sex without having intercourse.
From my personal meditations, I define sex as:
Any
action that engages your sexual hormones and sexual organs as a response to
stimulus
Sexual
hormones are biochemical secretions that bring about sexual motivation such as
testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, oxytocin and vasopressin. They are
responsible for all manners of sexual behaviours, depending on their secretion
level, and they come on board at puberty.
Sexual
organs, right from childhood, have been taught to be the private parts.
Unfortunately though, the private parts are gradually becoming “public parts”
as all manners of ungodly fashion have become the order of the day. Sexual
organs are more than the “private parts”; many have been misled to think that
once they are not opening their laps, they are not committing sin. Sexual
organs include the private parts, the mind, the hand, the mouth, the eyes and
whatever part of the body engaged in a sexual act.
The
primary sex organ in every human is
the mind, everything begins in the mind. Every sexual action begins in the
brain, the brain controls and regulates sexual behavior primarily by means of
hormones. Jesus gave a powerful sermon titled “Adultery in the Heart”, He said in Matthew 5: 27-30;
“You have heard that it was said to those of
old, ‘You shall not commit adultery’.
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has
already committed adultery with her in his heart” (v27-28 nkjv).
“You know the next commandment pretty well, too:
‘Don’t go to bed with another’s spouse’. But
don’t think you have preserved your virtue simply by staying out of bed. Your
heart can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those leering looks
you think nobody notices- they also corrupt” (v27-28 msg).
Wow, so a man
can stand right in the midst of people and have sex in his mind and Jesus said
it will still be a sin as one who went to bed. Sexual thinking precedes
sexual doings, people always imagine and daydream before the act of sex and
they may only imagine without acting. Whatever, Jesus said they are equal.
The problem here
is not the LOOK but the LUST. Looking is not the problem, one can look to
preach, to greet, to even compliments, but once
you look to lust there is problem.
Like Job we must say,
“I made a
solemn pact with myself never to undress a girl with my eyes” (Job 31:1 msg).
The primary sex organ in every human is the mind, everything begins in the mind
“I made a
covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman” (Job 31:1 niv).
The problem is the lust
that is in the mind and manifested through the eye. The lust in the mind can
also manifest through the hands or any other part of the body, so there can be
lustful touch, lustful gestures, lustful talk, lustful jokes, lustful hug, and
lustful compliment, etc. Brethren we must wise-up and be very watchful. We must
understand sex in all of its implications and do our very best to desist from
it while it is not time.
More to come
your way next week, keep thinking and applying what you have learnt.
Every arrow of
lust and seduction against you will fail in Jesus name.
This week you
will escape that temptation.
Receive the
power to say NO! In the name of Jesus.
You are a victor
not a victim. You are a set man for destiny not a sex toy.
Every demonic
trap you have fallen to is broken today in Jesus name.
Every serpentine
spirit manipulating your life catch fire in Jesus name.
Receive grace
for a clean heart, pure eyes and holy hands.
