Holiness vs Hormone (Part 3)

DOUBLE “H” WAR: Holiness vs Hormone (Part 3)

Sex is not Sexual Intercourse
People have always been shocked when I say that sex is not sexual intercourse. Please  note that I have not said that sexual intercourse is not sex. Sexual intercourse is sex but  sex is not sexual intercourse.
Sex is sexual intercourse plus all the sexual “outercourses”. Sexual intercourse is only a subset of sex. In the next post you will get to understand what sex is, but in this post I want to disabuse the age-long definition of sex that limits sex to sexual intercourse.
Encarta Dictionaries on my laptop defines sexual intercourse as “sex involving penetration”, and yet claims that it is the same as sex. That is wrong; sex involving penetration connotes that there could be sex not involving penetration. Sex without penetration is also sex. I have seen people who got pregnant with their hymen intact.
To limit the definition of sex to sexual intercourse is incorrect, not encompassing and in fact demonic. Demonic because it deceitfully gets many people involved in sexual sin, having other forms of sex and thinking they are still okay.
It is so amazing how even the grammatical analysis bespeak of this truth. I invite you to let us do this word analysis together. In English lessons, you will remember that we were taught parts of speech and more in Use of English. Now let us apply a little;

To limit the definition of sex to sexual intercourse is incorrect, not encompassing and in fact demonic

SEXUAL  INTERCOURSE
SEX + UAL   INTER + COURSE

SEX + UAL
In English, we were taught parts of speech such as noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, auxiliary verb, preposition, conjunction and interjection. The word SEXUAL is neither a noun nor a verb, it can only be an adjective describing or qualifying the noun intercourse or as an adverb modifying the verb intercourse (if it is the action).
The word sexual means something relating to or characterized by sexuality. In this case, sexual here only describe or modify the word “intercourse” to be relating to sex. So in the same vein we can as well talk of sexual look, sexual play, sexual touch, sexual thought and sexual purity etc. It reveals something involving sex, so the word sexual cannot equate the entirety of sex. They are not synonymous.

INTER + COURSE
The word INTERCOURSE didn’t have its origin in sex and its use is not limited to sex. Our minds have been influenced to think of sex when we hear intercourse. Of course I understand that when the use of a word has received a wide acceptance apart from its original meaning it can assumed such definition over time. So that is why you will find some dictionary defining intercourse as sex.

In the original sense of the word, intercourse (old fashioned) means communication and exchange between people, countries etc. In relation to sex, it refers to coitus or copulation which is most times the last thing that people do in sex. So, it will also be insufficient to equate it to the entirety of sex.Even some married have this faulty mentality of sex as sexual intercourse and as such, their sex life is so boring and frustrated.

Therefore, to think of sex as only sexual intercourse is to be prone to be sexually impure as a single and also sexually impure and frustrated as married.

WHAT THEN IS SEX? That will be the content of the next week Wednesday’s post.
So till next week, live right, feel right.

The Lord will help you overcome every temptation this week in Jesus name.
