What
is Sexual Sin?
Sex is a
Blessing not a Sin.
Sex was created by God before the Fall of man in Genesis 3. Sex is pure, holy
and righteous when it is within the design of God.Sex in itself is not a sin
but becomes a sin when it is outside certain parameters. Just as sex is not a
sin, so also sexual intercourse is not a sin. The corruption of human nature by
Sin in Genesis 3 is what brought about sinful sex. So every child of God must
make efforts to avoid sexual sins. Now let us define sexual sin; simply put,
Sexual
sin is yielding to a sexual temptation
Sexual
temptation is every sexual urges or stimulus that does not come from your
legally married spouse. Sexual temptation is the ungodly avenue, opportunity or
offer to express sexual emotions. It is the sexual impulse caused by anything
or anyone asides your spouse that stimulate your sexual hormone and seeks
to engage your sexual organs.
Note that sexual
temptation can come through people or things. People of opposite or same sex
(lesbians and gays) or things like pictures, films, music, imaginations etc.
Temptation is wrong desires stimulated by a wrong source.
TEMPTATION IS NOT A SIN, BUT YIELDING TO
IT IS A SIN. You have not sinned when you are tempted; it is when you respond
to do what you are tempted to do. Jesus was tempted but He had no sin.
“For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to feel sympathy for our weaknesses, but we have one who have
been tempted in every way, just as we are- yet He did not sin” (Hebrews 4:15
niv).
We must not feel
guilty when we have lots of temptations; many feel worried and helpless,
thinking they can’t help themselves and that they have to sin, NO NONO!
Temptation is not for you to sin, it is to overcome. Only be sure not to tempt
the devil yourself, desist from things, situations and people that stimulate
immoral sexual thoughts and actions.
Sexual temptation is the ungodly avenue or offer to express sexual emotionsTemptation is wrong desires stimulated by a wrong source
Meditate on the
three versions of 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 below;
“Don't be so
naive and self-confident. You're not exempt. You could fall flat on your face
as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it's useless. Cultivate
God-confidence. No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course
of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will
never let you down; he'll never let you be pushed past your limit; he'll always
be there to help you come through it” (1 Corinthians 10:12-13 msg).
Temptation is not for you to sin, it is to overcome
“So be careful. If you are thinking, "Oh, I
would never behave like that"--let this be a warning to you. For you too
may fall into sin. But remember this--the wrong desires that come into your
life aren't anything new and different. Many others have faced exactly the same
problems before you. And no temptation is irresistible. You can trust God to
keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it,
for he has promised this and will do what he says. He will show you how to
escape temptation's power so that you can bear up patiently against it” (1
Corinthians 10:12-13 tlb).
“Therefore let anyone who thinks he stands [who
feels sure that he has a steadfast mind and is standing firm], take heed lest
he fall [into sin]. For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin),
[no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on
you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you
that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and
belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful
[to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to
let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of
resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide
the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable
and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently” (1 Corinthians 10:12-13
amp).
“Happy is the man who doesn't give in and do
wrong when he is tempted, for afterwards he will get as his reward the crown of
life that God has promised those who love him” (James 1:12 tlb).
We are to simply
trust God to overcome every sexual temptation and not commit sexual sin. Sexual
sin is one of the potent weapons of the devil all through several generations
until now. It still remains a potent power in devil’s hands and so, we must
master it, deal with all its causes and stay pure.
Always remember
that it is by NATURE that we have sexual feelings, but it is by CHOICE that we
have sexual fallings.
That you feel does not mean that you should fall.
